Indian VS Triumph
Indian VS Triumph may not be a comparison that comes to mind immediately. We’ll admit that the two bikes are very different. Surprisingly though, they do have a couple key similarities.
Both bikes cost as near as makes no difference, $15,000. They both have 1200cc twin cylinder engines and styling that is difficult to look away from. That got us thinking, if you want a stylish bike for $15k, which one would you choose?
The Indian FTR 1200 S packs an impressive 120 horsepower and 87 lb-ft of torque from its 1203cc V-Twin. The Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC, by contrast, produces only 89 horsepower and 81 lb-ft of torque from its 1200cc parallel twin. Both motorcycles make use of fully adjustable suspension and Brembo brakes.
The Indian’s suspension comes from KYB and the Triumph has Showa forks with Ohlins rear shocks. The Triumph is also a surprising 30lbs lighter at 452lbs dry. Despite the lighter weight, the Triumph’s seat height is 2.4 inches higher at a relatively tall 33.1″ total.
The two motorcycles also present very different handling characteristics. The Indian feels much sportier on road with 17″ wheels and Metzler Sportec road tires on both ends. In keeping with the scrambler style, Triumph fitted the Scrambler with knobby Metzler Tourance tires and a 21″ front wheel for more versatility.
Both of these motorcycles also take styling to new heights. The Indian has a modern and aggressive appearance that exudes capability. The Triumph takes a more retro approach with fantastic use of materials and design. Picking a winner between these two when it comes to looks, is too difficult a task.
