It’s the machine that changed motorcycling in America, and that put the whole world on two wheels. The Honda Super Cub was the right bike at the right time, and now it’s back in a thoroughly modern version. The refined 2022 Honda Super Cub 125 benefits mainly from engine and suspension changes for this model year. Its retains the classic looks too, but underneath that timeless bodywork it’s packed with plenty of modern features.
So the most significant changes to the 2022 Honda Super Cub 125 is the new engine that is claimed to be smoother and more economical than before. Peak power is up slightly and the new Super Cub is also Euro 5 compliant.
The new powerplant sees the bottom end from the current home market C110 mated to the top end and head of the current 2022 Honda Grom. The SOHC two-valve engine has a bore of 50mm and stroke of 63.1mm and produces max power of 9.6hp at 7,500rpm and peak torque of 7.6lb-ft at 6,250rpm.
The intake features a new airbox, designed specifically for the new engine, that is smaller and combines with the new connecting tube and new injector position to improve driveability. The exhaust features a new single catalyser layout for a cleaner exhaust, while revised fuel injection settings also improve exhaust emissions.
Unlike the 2022 Honda Monkey, the Super Cub retains a 4-speed gearbox, with neutral at the bottom. As before, power is transmitted by way of a centrifugal clutch, doing away with the need for a clutch lever.
The claimed fuel economy of the 2022 Honda Super Cub is impressive, with the bike returning a claimed 156 mpg.
The new Cub is available in dealers in August priced at $3749.00
