Guy Martin just can’t get enough speed it seems. The legendary Isle of Man TT racer and truck mechanic is currently on a mission to break the mile motorcycle speed record on his personal Suzuki Hayabusa.
This is not just your average ‘Busa though. Martin purchased the Hayabusa back in 2018 and has been modifying it ever since. The bike has been fully customized for one thing in mind – top speed. The bike has been completely refitted with a full shell designed to reduce drag, and the engine has been completely upgraded and modified with a large turbo added.
Reaching 300 mph in just one mile will prove a major challenge. Martin’s previous attempts got him up to 282 miles per hour from a stand-still. Propelling his aero shelled machine to such crazy speeds is a modified Hayabusa engine delivering a whopping 830hp thanks to its turbocharger.
Martin is currently in the final stages of developing the Suzuki Hayabusa to wring out the last 18 miles per hour needed to break the record. Martin recently shared his thoughts on his Instagram account regarding the process and achieving the record:-
“It’s only 16 seconds, the whole thing is only 16 seconds. It is just gritting your teeth and trying to manhandle this monster down a mile track. It’s like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. It’s just madness, it’s a wrestling match in every area, physically, mentally, everything. I can’t sleep for two days when I’ve been fast on that bike. 250mph is alright, but when I’ve been like 260mph or 280mph, I can’t sleep for two days. For two days, I’m wired”
