Ducati has released its latest 2021 ‘naked’ street bike — The Streetfighter V4 S. The Italian moto-maker says the new iteration is the result of its “Fight Formula.” Is this something dark and secret developed in a basement? Well dark, sort of…
The designer and creator of the Streetfighter V4 – Jérémy Faraud – says the Batman franchise’s Joker inspired the bike’s look. Faraud says the Streetfighter V4 is a bike with a dual personality. It’s fast on the track and and aims to dominate on public roads. Streetfighter was born as a superbike and then evolved like a MotoGP machine. However it is also perfect for urban riding. It’s basically a crazy bike, according to Faraud.
The Streetfighter recipe is essentially a Panigale V4 stripped of the fairings, with a higher and wider handlebar set-up. It tips the scales at around 392 pounds and is powered by an 1,100cc Desmosedici Stradale motor delivering a healthy 208 horsepower. Add to this latest recipe – biplane wings and an updated electronic package for blasting around the hood! Ducati also introduced new front brake pumps and a self-purging clutch, as first used on the Superleggera V4.
Ducati says that for impressive mixed-road performance, a motorcycle requires maximum stability at high speed and under braking. They also reduced wheel-up during acceleration and minimized, yes… minimized electronic control of the suspension set-up for a more steely ride. Then they developed the biplane wings.
Ducati developed the Streetfighter V4 S’ aerodynamics CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation. The calculation method involved stationary simulation of flow and pressure to achieve increased downforce, especially on the front wheel. To reduce lateral protrusion as much as possible, the aerodynamics team decided to adopt a ‘biplane’ configuration of limited ‘wingspan’ with upper and lower wings working independently.
The 2021 Ducati Streetfighter V4 S is available in a new Dark Stealth color scheme. That joins the current sporty Ducati red color. According to Ducati USA, the Streetfighter V4 S should be available in the US in the next few months starting at $24,395.
